Vacations are always a blast!!! It's something your whole family looks forward to! Why is that? Well...everyone needs a break from reality once in a while. Most people are stressed from school or work and they just need to get away. But most of the time vacations put people farther in debt then they already are. I would personally love to go to Florida or Hawaii, but with six other people in my family it would cost a few thousand dollars just for a week. That doesn't even include plane tickets!!!
I am almost 16 years old and I have only been on a few vacations (only a few days long) because of how expensive they are.
My siblings and I finally came up with an idea so we could go on a new vacation every year.
Two years ago we started to put a certain amount of money in a jar each week. Maybe you are thinking "we don't have any extra money to set aside." Don't even worry about that. Most families go out to eat or go to fast food restaurants at least twice a week. Every time you think of grabbing a bite somewhere...DON'T. Make something at home and put the amount of money that you would have spent eating inside the jar instead. That's what we did. After awhile the money started to add up and within a few months we had enough to go to Wisconsin Dells!!! We are doing the same thing this year. We are putting enough money in a jar so we can all go visit some friends in Iowa for a whole week!!!
This system has worked very well so far, and if we keep it up we may be able to go to Florida by next year! :)
Another idea would be to look for vacation packages online. Websites like Hotwire.com and Bookit.com have lists of hotels and flight packages for a number of destinations.
